RE: Resolution request for additional appropriations for 2024 Childcare expenses.
The 2024 program expenses will exceed 2024 budget appropriations for the Childcare
program administered through the Dutchess County Department of Community &
Family Services. This program is 100% reimbursed through the New York State Childcare
Block Grant.
Over the past year, following the changes made to the eligibility criteria as well as the
outreach efforts to increase access to daycare services, we have experienced fifty-two
(52%) increase in our caseload from 530 families reaching 1,004 children in January of
2023, to 807 families reaching 1,476 children as of October 1, 2024.
The Department of Community & Family Services is requesting the approval of the
Dutchess County Legislature to add $2,000,000 to cover expenses for this valuable
program for Dutchess County residents.
Thank you for your consideration.
