COMMENDATION: EAGLE SCOUT JOSHUA D. WILLIAMS

DUTCHESS COUNTY LEGISLATURE Commendation: Eagle Scout Joshua D. Williams Resolution No. 2025094 The Dutchess County Legislature offers the following and moves its adoption: WHEREAS, Joshua D. Williams is a member of Scout Troop 41, Beacon, NY, and his Court of Honor was Sunday, May 25, 2025. He successfully passed his Eagle Board of Review on December 17, 2024, and WHEREAS, Joshua D. Williams has demonstrated a commitment to the highest ideals of Scouting and to his community, earning Merit Badges in Environmental Science, Citizenship in the Nation, Communication, Cooking, Citizenship in Society, Personal Management, Citizenship in the World, First Aid, Swimming, Citizenship in the Community, Camping, Emergency Preparedness, Personal Fitness, and Family Life to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. His elective merit badges completed are Basketry, Archery, Mammal Study, Photography, Rifle Shooting, Art, Bird Study, Chess, Fishing, Wood Carving, Leatherwork, Farm Mechanics, Fingerprinting, Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Wilderness Survival, Climbing, Textile, Small Boat Sailing, Pottery, Metalwork, Welding, and Fire Safety. With the extra elective merit badges he has completed, Josh has earned a Gold Palm, and WHEREAS, Joshua D. Williams has held the leadership positions of Quartermaster, Den Chief, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and has been his troop's Senior Patrol Leader for the last year. While attending the National Jamboree in 2023, Josh served as the Quartermaster for his contingent troop who attended from the Greater Hudson Valley Council. Joshua is a Leave No Trace trainer, and has successfully completed National Youth Leadership Training in his council, and National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience at the Bechtel Scout Reserve in Glen Jean, West Virginia. He has also gone on a 14-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmeron, New Mexico hiking through the backcountry. This summer he will be going to Northern Tier in Ely, Minnesota, canoeing through the boundary waters, and WHEREAS, for Joshua D. Williams' Eagle Scout project, he renovated a wild bird viewing area for the Taconic Outdoor Education Center. He worked with his friends and family to set three posts for bird feeders in very rocky ground. He planted bushes and made a viewing area with a blind where educators could bring in school groups to view and learn about the wild birds in our area. WHEREAS, Joshua D. Williams is a member of the Winner's Circle Project. This group has been working all year to build a race car that will be raced against other cars built at other schools around the state, and WHEREAS, Joshua D. Williams has been a member of his high school track team and football teams for a year each. He has also been a member of the high school's bowling team for three years, as well as a member of the Fishkill United Methodist Church, participating in the youth group, and WHEREAS, Joshua D. Williams currently attends John Jay Senior High School where he is completing his junior year. At the end of June, he will be attending the American Legion's Boys State. After graduation, Joshua would like to join the Army National Guard and attend college with a focus in Wildlands Firefighting, and RESOLVED, that Dutchess County Legislature, on behalf of all the people of Dutchess County, does hereby commend and congratulate Eagle Scout Joshua D. Williams, and, be it further RESOLVED, that the Dutchess County Legislature does hereby extend to Eagle Scout Joshua D. Williams its best wishes in all his future endeavors.
