COMMENDATION: NATIONAL 4-H WEEK

DUTCHESS COUNTY LEGISLATURE Commendation: National 4-H week Resolution No. 2025171 The Dutchess County Legislature offers the following and moves its adoption: WHEREAS, the 4-H mission is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society, and WHEREAS, since 1902, 4-H has been helping youth and adults learn, grow, and work together with volunteers providing countless hours of volunteer time, and WHEREAS, 4-H builds youth self-esteem, leadership, and citizenship skills and focuses on critical issues, and WHEREAS, 4-His one of the largest youth organizations in New York, with over 170,000 youth involved, and WHEREAS, the New York State 4-H is a program offered in every county by Cornell Cooperative Extension as part of the University's historic land-grant mission, and WHEREAS, New York State 4-H has programs on food and nutrition, science and technology, natural resources, animal science, communication skills, citizenship, and leadership, and WHEREAS, 4-H members and their families have made worthwhile contributions to the citizens of New York and this nation, and 4-H programs are an investment in our community, and WHEREAS, Dutchess County 4-H youth participate in a wide variety of projects and activities year-round, led by dedicated and knowledgeable Dutchess County 4-H leaders. 4-H reaches over 2,400 youth in the county through school enrichment, afterschool programs, 4-H clubs, and other programs each year, now, therefore be it, RESOLVED, that the Dutchess County Legislature, on behalf of all the people of Dutchess County, does hereby congratulate and commend 4-H's mission to help educate, offer community services, and enlighten our youth for a positive future in Dutchess County.
