CONDOLENCE: SERGEANT KEITH NIGEL BARNETT, JR.

DUTCHESS COUNTY LEGISLATURE Condolence: Sergeant Nigel Keith Barnett, Jr. Resolution No. 2025173 The Dutchess County Legislature offers the following and moves its adoption: WHEREAS, the Dutchess County Legislature has learned with great sadness and regret of the recent death of Sergeant Nigel Keith Barnett, Jr. on September 16, 2025, at the age of 49, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Barnett was born on November 26, 1975, to Nigel Keith Barnett, Sr. and Esmie (McNeil) Barnett, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Barnett attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School and pursued his Associate's Degree at Dutchess Community College, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Barnett started his law enforcement career as a correctional officer at the Dutchess County Jail and transitioned to the New York State Police where he was a member for 19 years, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Barnett was a member of The Gathering at Faith Assembly in Poughkeepsie, and WHEREAS, in addition to his partner, Kristin Denu, and her daughters Giavanna and Londyn White, Sergeant Barnett is survived by his parents, his son Nigel Barnett III, his sisters Katisha Barnett and Marcia Barnett, his brother-in-law Ainsley Wheeler, his nieces and nephews Alasia Wheeler, Annmarie Wheeler, Ainsley Wheeler, Jr., Denzel Wheeler, and Zion Moore, his great-nephew and great-niece Jasaan Wheeler-Ward and Harmony Wheeler, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Barnett's passing will be mourned by his family, friends, and colleagues throughout Dutchess County, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Dutchess County Legislature, on behalf of all the people of Dutchess County, does hereby extend its deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Sergeant Nigel Keith Barnett, Jr., and, be it further RESOLVED, that the meeting of the Dutchess County Legislature be adjourned in memory of the late Sergeant Nigel Keith Barnett, Jr. STATE OF NEW YORK COUNTY OF DUTCHESS This is to certify that I, the undersigned Clerk of the legislature of the County of Dutchess, have compared the foregoing resolution with the original resolution now on file in the office of said clerk, and which was adopted by said Legislature on the 14h day of October 2025, and that the same is a true and correct transcript of said original resolution and of the whole thereof.
